14.4 Without considering modifications as mentioned in Para 1.3 above

Part 1

14.4.1 Aries: Saturn’s transit in 7th from natal sign is generally unfavourable. This may result in bad health to spouse, loss of money, difficulties in partnership deals, aimless travels, fatigue of foot journey, accident/ danger during journeys, separation from family, incur displeasure of seniors/ authorities, desertion by servants/ attendants and unforeseen medical expenditure. Marital disharmony leading to physical or mental separation with spouse, delay in marriage or promotion/ unwelcome transfers may add to mental agony. Since Saturn is Tamra-moorthy & Kantak Shani, one has to struggle hard to overcome unseen delays & problems in all ventures. However after May 2012, Jupiter turns favourable and will come to some rescue.

14.4.2 Taurus: As Saturn is now in 6th from natal Moon and in Rajat-Moorthy, good positive results may be expected throughout the year particularly after May 2012 when Jupiter enters Taurus. Throughout the year, the sign under Rahu-Ketu (both in their debility) axis may slightly dampen the outcomes. But after Dec 2012, the Rahu turns favourable. By and large, natives will enjoy a happy domestic life free from diseases & enemies and enjoy luxuries & company of women (may be extra-marital relations). There will be great financial gains, but extra-expenditure by wife & children also. The working environment of work place will be smooth, due promotion/ perks/ transfer to place of interest may please you. Relations with superiors & authorities will be good and native may enjoy additional power, status & responsibilities. Businessmen will earn profit from their old stock and pending dues/ bills may be recovered. There could be success in competitions, court cases & litigation.

14.4.3 Gemini: Saturn’s transit in 5th sign from natal Moon gives mixed results. The natives are normally confused, lacks discrimination, his children get sick or their education suffers. There may be loss of a limb/ fracture in accident, loss of wealth, income or decline in business or loss in speculation. He may have liaison with wicked women and lose money, health & name on that account. Mental agony and depression for one or the other reason may plague the natives. Loans from various sources ad friends may be of great help in times of need. Wedding of a child may give some solace. However since Saturn is in Swarna-monthly and Jupiter till May 2012, transits in 11th from natal Moon, the natives may have necessary courage & strength to overcome many evils that may befall on them.

14.4.4 Cancer: These natives may have adverse results as Saturn is in 4th from natal Moon (Kantak Shani) and in Loha-moorthy indicating trying (bad) period. It may test one’s patience & self-confidence in dealing with problems w.r.t parents, spouse, house, property, vehicle, health & domestic happiness. There may be separation of spouse, friends & relations, loss of wealth & happiness, frequent transfers and change of job/ business. During 2012, natives may enjoy good health (but own health may deteriorate after Dec 2012), but health of family members causes concer and unwanted expenditure. One may suffer all comforts & respect and is humiliated due to enemies authorities. One may have to leave one’s home, home-town or country and become perverted with negative thinking. However transit of Ketu & Jupiter in Taurus, indicate some success & improvements in various fields. In independent India’s chart natal Moon is in Cancer. Hence the Mundane effects on national scene are expected to be bad in 4th house’s significations.

14.3 Effect of Saturn’s Transit on Natives

14.3.1 The general effects of transit Saturn on natives are given in chapter-9. However these are modified by various factors as follows. Firstly let us see the Prayaya/ cyclic effects of Saturn. The Saturn being slow moving, its one cycle lasts for about 30 years. Depending upon the age of the native and position of natal Saturn in native’s birth chart, different results should be expected. The details are covered in Para 9.3 of chapter-9.

14.3.2 Moorthy Nirnaya: The general principles & results are already covered in Para 5.11 of chapter-5. At the time of Saturn’s entry in to Libra on 15 Nov 2011 at 10th 12m, the Moon was transiging in Ardra Nakshtra of Gemini. So the results of Saturn’s transit will be modified as per Swarna-moorthy for Gemini, Capricorn & Leo Moon-sign natives (being 1, 6, 11 from birth sign), which is extremely good giving excellent results. The results will be modified as per Rajat-moorthy for Taurus, Aquarius & Libra natives (being 2, 5, 9 from birth sign) bringing good results & opportunities. The results will be as per Tamra-moorthy for Aries, Sagittarius & Virgo natives (being 3, 7, 10 from birth sign) giving mixed results. The transit results of Saturn will be as per Loha-moorthy for Pisces, Scorpio & Cancer natives (being 4, 8, 12 from the birth sign), which may be a trying (bad) period.

14.3.3 Nakshtranga Shani: The transit results of Saturn as per its Nakshtra vis-à-vis natal Nakshtra of any native have been shown in table – 34 of chapter-9. This chapter also deal with other factors modifying transit like benefic Nakshtra from natal Nakshtra, Vedhas, Vipreet Vedhas, and Nakshtra Angphal etc. In addition when Saturn passes through 1st (natal), 3rd (Vipat), 5th (Pratyak) and 7th (Nidhan) Nakshtra from one’s birth Nakshtra, the results are really bad, particularly so in the 7th Nakshtra. Saturn’s transit through these unfavourable Nakshtras with specific periods are given below:

i) Saturn in Chitra: from 15th Nov 2011 to 11th Oct 2012- unfavorable period will be for following natal Nakshtra:- Natal (1st)- Mrigshira, Chitra & Dhanishta Vipat (3rd)- Krittika, U. Phalguni & U. Ashada: Pratyak (5th)- Ashwani, Magha & Moola : and Nidhan (7th) – Pushya, Anuradha & U. Bhadrapad.

ii) Saturn in Swati from 11th Oct 2012 to 4th Nov 2013- Unfavourable period will be for the following Nakshtra:- Natal (1st)- Ardra, Swati & Satbhisha; Vipat (3rd)- Rohini, Hasta & Sravan: Pratyak (5th)- Bharini, P. Phalguni & P. Ashada: and Nidhan (7th)- Ashlesha, Jyeshta & Revati.

iii) Saturn in Vishakha from 4th Nov 2013 to 2nd Nov 2014- Unfavourable period will be for the following Nakshtra:- Natal (1st)- Punurvasi, Vishakha & U. Bhadra: Vipat (3rd)- Mrigshira, Chitra & Dhanishta: Pratyarak (5th)- Krittika, U. Phalguni & U. Ashada: and Nidhan (7th)- Ashwani, Magha & Moola.

14.3.4 Special Transits: Saturn in the 12th, 1st & 2nd from the Moon sign at birth is dreaded too much and is called Sadhe Sati. During Saturn’s sojourn in Libra, the affected natives will be those having natal Moon sign in Virgo, Libra or Scorpio. Its results have been discussed in detail in Para 9.5 of chapter-9. Ashtam Shani (in 8th from natal Moon sign i.e. Pisces) is equally malignant. Saturn in 4th, 7th & 10th from natal Moon sign i.e. Cancer, Aries & Capricorn, called Kantak Shani / Ardha-Ashtama Shani, is also unfavourable. These have been discussed in para 9.6 of chapter-9. Saturn bestows favourable results only in 3rd, 6th & 11th from natal Moon sign i.e. in present context in Leo, Taurus & Sagittarius Moon sign. In Sagittarius, Saturn’s transit otherwise also give good results and is called Kodand Shani.

14.3.4 Natal Position of Planets: The strength of natal Saturn (by position, conjunction & aspect) and its transit over natal position of a planet, ascendant and 10th cusp play an important role. These have been discussed in Para 9.7 of chapter-9. The other factors modifying transit are also discussed in chapter-5.

14.3.5 Inter-action with Dasha lords: As brought out earlier, transit only delivers what natal chart promises and dasha sequence packages for delivery. Therefore it is essential to see transit position of lords of dasha, Antar-dasha & Pratyantar-dasha (particularly or slow moving planets) and their inter-action with exalted Saturn in Libra.

Encyclopedia of Vedic Astrology: Planetary Transit: Saturn’s Transit in Libra, Chapter XIV, Part - 1

Dr. Shanker Adawal

14.1 Introduction

14.1.1 Saturn, Shani, being ruler of Karmas, longevity & `Kaal (time)’ controls one’s destiny. He is the most dreaded planet signifying sorrows, miseries, sufferings, obstacles, impediments, chronic diseases, deformities, delays, laziness, depression, poverty and restrictions among others. As a subdue, it destroys one’s pride, arrogance and ego subjecting to problems mentioned above. But he is a great friend of mankind & masses, strict disciplinarian, hard task master, asking for self-control, restrain, sacrifice, patience, solitude, austerity & spirituality. He loves justice, perfection, concentration, renunciation of desires & cravings and a great fighter against evil & baser instincts. Saturn’s purpose by transit is to pressurize the native to fix what is being long neglected, to restore order to whatever has become chaotic/ out of control, and to reclaim what is intrinsically valuable.

14.1.2 Saturn is strong in 7th house, getting directional strength, in Libra where it is exalted (deep, exaltation at 20 degree), and for Taurus/ Libra Ascendant/ Moon sign where he is Yogkaraka. He is also strong at the end of a sign, during dark half of Moon and during his week-day. The house that Saturn transits, indicates the part of one’s life that is being examined and represents the areas of tension in one’s life that require close attention. The planets that Saturn transits over, represents the energy that are being challenged and the behavior patterns under examination. Saturn teaches natives about the values of moderation, caution & hard work. Being slowest in motion it is also called Mand and is karaka of anything slow-be it disease or a long stay in office. It may cause delay in any/ every aspect of life, it is associated, but does not deny their fruits.

14.2 Movements of Slow Moving Planets

14.2.1 Being a slow moving planet, Saturn takes about 2-1/2 years to transit over a sign and about 30 years to cover one round of the zodiac. On 15th Nov 2011, it has entered Libra (3rd quarter of Chitra Nakshtra), turns retrograde on 8th Feb 2012 and enters 2nd quarter of Chitra (Virgo) on 16 May 2012. Saturn becomes direct on 26 Jun 2012 and re-enters Chitra 3rd quarter on 4 Aug 2012, enters Swati Nakshtra on 11 Oct 2012. He again becomes retrograde on 19 Feb 2013, gets direct motion on 9 July 2013, all in Swati Nakshtra. Saturn enters Vishakha Nakshtra on 4 Nov 2003 and leaves 3rd quarter of Vishakha (Libra) on 2 Nov 2014. Durinig his stay in Libra, Saturn is exalted and is not bothered about Vedha by Sun or of combustion as Libra is sign of debilitation for Sun.

14.2.2 During the period of Saturn’s transit in Libra, Jupiter is currently in Aries (in opposition) and moves to Taurus (in 6/8 position) on 17th May 2012 and to Gemini (in 5/9 position) on 31st May 2013. Rahu & Ketu are currently in Scorpio & Taurus (signs of debility in 2/ 12 position) but will move to Libra & Aries (in conjunction & in opposition) on 23rd Dec 2012 and will remain there till Saturn’s sojourn in Libra. The Mars is currently in Leo (in 3/11 position) on a long stay and will enter Virgo (in 2/ 12 position) on 26th Jun 2012, Libra (conjunct) on 15th Aug 2012, Scorpio (2/ 12 position) on 29th Sep 2012, Sagittarius (3/ 11 position) on 9th Nov 2012, in Capricorn (both exalted & in 4/ 10 position) on 18th Dec 2012. In 2013, Mars enters Aquarius (5/9 position) on 26th Jan, in Pisces (6/ 8 position) on 5th Mar, in Aries (in opposition) on 13th Apr, in Taurus (6/ 8 position) on 24th May, in Gemini (5/ 9 position) on 5th Jul, in Cancer (in debility & in 4/ 10 position) on 19th Aug and in Leo again on 6th Oct 2013.
