The lord of Ascendant should be looked at, with regard to the stature, complexion etc. concerning and a native.

Lord of Ascendant and planets aspecting Ascendant denotes shape and looks of a native. Planets posited in Ascendant (other than lord of Ascendant) confer effects depending on their lordships.

Y-1- If benefic are posted in Ascendant in exaltation/Mooltrikona/own/friendly house.

E- The prosperity of the native will be from birth place.

Y-2- Malefic similarly placed in Ascendant, indicate prosperity away from birth place.

Y-3- If Ascendant falls in a moveable sign, lord of Ascendant happens to be a moveable planet, aspected by or conjunct with a moveable planet indicates that.

E- The native will enjoy prosperity arising from a foreign place, and

N- Fixed signs and fixed planets, indicate much greater luck and prosperity within one’s own country.

Constitution

Y-1- When the Ascendant is a watery sign and is occupied by benefic planets, astrologers declare.

E- Stout body/fatness of person as the effect thereof.

Y-2- When the lord of the Ascendant occupies a watery sign and is in conjunction with benefic planets.

E- The person born, say the astrologers, will have a sound constitution.

Complexion –

Y-1- If the Ascendant is occupied or aspected by Sun, Moon Mars, Mercury, Jupiter or Venus.

E- The native will be good-looking.

Y-2- If Saturn, Dragon’s Head/Tail is in or aspecting the Ascendant.

E- The native will not be good-looking.

N- A planet from the former group and one from the latter group, if placed together or aspecting Ascendant, Mixed effects will arise, and the complexion of the native will not be attractive but dark.

Tri-dosha –

Venus or Jupiter indicates phlegmatic constitution.

Saturn/Moon windy; other planets-bilious constitution.

These planets, if placed in Ascendant indicate which of the Tri-Dosha is predominating on the native.

The native will become Satvik (PiousA) if Jupiter or Saturn is in or aspecting Ascendant.

Tamasa (brutish or animal-like) if Mars or Dragon’s Head is in or aspecting Ascendant.

Gyani (learned) if Dragon’s Tail is in or aspecting Ascendant.

Rajasa (Worldly), if other planets are in or aspecting Ascendant.

Size of body

Fat body is indicated if Saturn/Moon is in or aspecting the Ascendant.

Moderate body is indicated if Sun/Mercury/Jupiter is in or aspecting Ascendant.

Lean body is indicated if others.

Lean body-light weight –

Y- If the lord of Ascendant is weak and posited in a Shushka rasi (fiery sign) aspected by Malefic.

E- The native will possess a lean body and be weak.

Appearance –

Y-1- If the lord of the Ascendant occupying the 12^th house be in conjunction with the lord of the 6^th house from that occupied by the Sun.

E- The person born will get married in normal course, be characterized by many illnesses, and has a slim figure and a hue composed of red and white.

Y-2- If the lord of the 6^th house from the Ascendant be also in conjunction with the lord Ascendant in the above position.

E- The person born will be dark in personal appearance.

Y-3- But if Rahu be with the lord of the Ascendant.

E- The person concerned will surely run the risk of treachery and poisoning.

Y-4- If benefic are placed in the Ascendant the native will have a pleasing appearance.

Y-5- If malefic are placed there, he will be bereft of good appearance.

N- The situation of benefic in the Ascendant or their aspect on it gives the native physical comforts.

Y-6- If the rising time of the sign in Lagna is one hour, the head of the native is small.

Y-7- If a dry (other than watery) planet is in Lagna & the Lagna too belongs to a dry planet.

E- The body is weak and slim.

Y-8- Similar is the result if the lord of the Lagna is associated with a dry planet or is located in the sign of dry planets.

E- The body is weak and slim.

Y-9- In case there is the sign of a dry planet in the Lagna and the Lagna contains many malefic planets.

E- The result regarding the body being slim follows.

Y-10- If there is a watery sign in the Ascendant associated with benefic planets.

E- The native will have a fat body.

Y-11- If the lord of the Ascendant is a watery planet & is strong & is associated with benefic planets.

E- Then also the body is bulky.

Y-12a- In case the lord of the Ascendant is located in a watery sign, is associated with a benefic planet and aspected by a watery planet or

Y-12b- If the sign in the Ascendant belongs to a benefic planet and the lord of the Navamsa occupied by the lord of the Ascendant is located in a watery sign.

E- The native has a bulky body.

Y-13- If the Ascendant sign belongs to a benefic planet and it is aspected by any malefic planet.

E- The native has a fat body.

Y-14a- If Jupiter is in the Ascendant or it aspects the Ascendant, or if the watery sign in the Lagna is aspected by Jupiter placed in a watery sign.

Y-14b- If there is a benefic in the Ascendant, which is also under the aspect of a benefic planet.

E- Even then the body is fatty.

Y-1- If the lord of the Kirthibhava, i.e. the 10^th house, be in the Ascendant, the person born will become famous.

Y-2- If the planet be in the 2^nd house and have attained its exaltation and other benefic vargas he will be a remarkable celebrity.

Y-3- If the planet be in a bad place, he will be knocked up by ceaseless travelling or will be a knave/unprincipled rogue.

But if the planet occupies an Angle or Trine in conjunction with a benefic planet the person will have ease in travelling.

Renowned –

Y-1- If the lord of the 1^st house occupy he 5^th or the 9^th or being in conjunction with the Lord of the 5^th or 9^th occupy the Ascendant, the father of the person born will be a famous man.

Y-2- If the lord of the 3^rd house be in the Ascendant or the Karaka- Mars as well as the lord of the Bhratubhava be together in one house and possess strength, a brother of the person born, will become renowned.

Famous for learning- When the lord of the 2^nd house or Mercury is in the Ascendant and when the 2^nd house is occupied by the lord of the Ascendant and when the house in either case is strong and free from malefic aspect, the person born will become famous for his learning.

Enjoy good luck- If the lords of the 9^th and the 1^st houses from the Ascendant be in their respective house or if the lords of the 1^st and 9^th, occupy the 9^th and the 1^st respectively, and if the planets in their respective positions be aspected by or associated with Jupiter the persons born will enjoy good luck for a long time.

Nurtured by 3 mothers- If at the time of birth the Sun and the Moon are together placed in the same house and are in the same Navamsa at rising the child is nurtured by 3 mothers (nurses) for three months and afterwards by his father and brothers.

(The Sun and the Moon falling together in the same sign and in the same Navamsa rising i.e. Within 3^o – 20’ means complete emaciation of the Moon. In this condition there will be Amavashya or the 30^th of the dark half of the month. Therefore the Moon, the significator of mother, will be very weak, become mother’s destroyer).

Moon Ascendant- Prediction for Effects should be made in the same way from the Moon as well (i.e. taking the Moon as the Ascendant).

(As the effects are studied from the Natal Ascendant, the Sage recommends here to study these in the same manner from the Moon Lagna or taking the sign situated by the Moon to be the Ascendant).

Native’s body limbs Now let us explain, the identity marks, ulcers etc. on the native’s body.

(Head, eyes, ears, nose, temple, chin and face-these are the limbs indicated by the houses 1, 12, 11, 10, 9, 8, 7 respectively, when there is the rise of the First Decanate of the Ascendant; neck, shoulder, arm, side, heart, stomach and navel, when that of the `second’ one and Pelvis, anus and penis, testicles, thigh, Knee, calf and foot, when that of the third one.

The portion already risen, (the six houses behind the Lagna i.e. 12, 11, 10, 9, 8, 7 or the Uttaradha of the Lagna) indicates left side of the body and, the one yet to rise (the six houses ahead of the Lagna i.e. 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 or the Poorvardha of the Lagna) indicates the right side the body).

To consider as to which limb of the native’s body will have ulcer, injury, tumour, identification mark, mole, wart etc. the ancient Indian Sages imagined three portions of the body on the basis of the Drekkanas or Decantes and regarded the Ascendant etc. as representatives of the various organs of the body.

The first part represents head, the second part comprises all organs below the neck and above the navel and the third part shows all the organs below the navel.

If rising Drekkana or Decanate is the first it represents the head, if second it shows the organs below, the neck and above the navel and if the 3^rd Drekkana or Decanate commences then the lower parts of the body from the navel are shown. The remaining degrees yet to be covered by the Ascendant in the sign or right side, while the other portion is the left side of the head in north Indian charts.

The right and left sides of the neck, pelvis, face, navel, and feet are to be known following this principle, the 12^th House from the Ascendant represents the left eye, the second house the right eye, the 11^th house the left ear and the third house the right ear, the 10^th house the left side of the nose and the 4^th house the right side of the nose, the 9^th house the left cheek and the 5^th house the right cheek, the 8^th house the left chin and the 6^th the right chin.

The 7^th house represents the right and the left side of the face, some say that it represents the mouth.

The head and the face have been said to be represented by the Ascendant and the 7^th Huse.

But in the Sloka (Verse) the right and the left sides of these organs is not very clear. Therefore the bisecting line of the two has to be drawn.

From the middle of the Lagna or Ascendant, the half portion towards the second house is to be understood as the right Side, and that towards the 12^th House as the left side.

The same thing is understood in the context of the seventh house.

The degrees covered by the Ascendant in the rising sign indicate the left side of the neck, while the degrees yet to be traversed in the sign show the right side of the neck.

The 12^th house shows the left shoulder, the second house the right shoulder.

The 11^th house the left arm, the 3^rd house the right arm.

The 10^th house the left side, the 4^th side the right side.

The 9^th house the left side of the heart, the 5^th house the right side of the heart.

The 8^th house the left side of the stomach and the 6^th house the right side of the stomach and;

The 7^th house indicates the right and the left side of the navel.

When the rising sign is in the third Drekkana or Decanate, the left and right sides of the part of the body below the navel are indicated as shown below:

The degrees covered by the Ascendant in the sign indicate the left side of the pelvis while the other portion of the sign shows the right side of the pelvis.

The 12^th house shows the left side of the generative organ and anus, the second house their right side;

The 11^th house the left testicle, the 3^rd house the right testicle;

The 10^th house the left thigh, the 4^th house the right thigh;

The 9^th house the left knee, the 5^th house the right knee;

The 8^th house the left calf and the 6^th house the right calf and;

The 7^th house shows the left and right foot.

A obscure person- A person becomes obscure if, at his birth, the lord of the rising sign is placed, in the house of a malefic planet, occupies the 6^th, 8^th or 12^th place from the Ascendant and is aspected by or associated with a malignant planet.

Menial worker - When the lord of the Ascendant is a malefic planet and occupies the 6^th place from the Ascendant being associated with Saturn in a malefic sign, the person born will be like a menial worker.

And if Rahu or Ketu take the place of Saturn in the above, the person will be a Chandala or some equally inferior person.

Y-1- If the limb is occupied by a malefic planet, the learned astrologer should tell that it will have ulcer and if the limb is occupied by Mercury and all the malefic planets, it will certainly have ulcer and when it is aspected by benefic the limb will have only scars.

The wounds by accident would be inflicted during the periods of such planets or their sub-periods.

If Mercury joins two or three malefic planets in any house then that organ which is represented by that house will have wound.

If such malefic planets have benefic aspect then there will be a black mole mark or spot just like lecoderma.

(A malefic or benefic, if be in own sign, or navamsa, the effects will be right from birth. In other cases it will be in the course of one’s life, that these effects will give misery.

Y-2- When there is a benefic planet in the 1^st house, but a malefic one in the 2^nd as well as in a Angle, and when the lord of the Ascendant has attained the Uttamamsa.

E- The person born suffers misery in early life, however is happy thereafter come to pass.

Effects of houses- The house that is conjunct or aspected by its own lord, who is a benefic, or benefic(s) aspecting it, will give good results pertaining to that house.

On the other hand, if the house is occupied by Malefic or by lords of 6/8/12 houses, the effects pertaining to that house will not materialize in full, or there may be destruction of the effects of that house, depending on the severity of the affliction.

The house whose lord is debilitated or combust or is staying in 6/8/12^th from the house concerned, will become weak.

Houses whose lords are in exaltation, Moolatrikona or friendly house will be considered strong.

Y-1- If lord of Ascendant is in 12^th house or in debilitation or in enemy house or is otherwise weak such natives spend their life time away from his place of birth.

Y-2- If lord of Ascendant is exalted or in moolatrikona/own/friendly house, which happens to be quadrant/trine/2^nd from Ascendant, such natives spend their life time in their place of birth.

Y-3- If lord of 4^th is posited in a sign owned by a benefic in company of Jupiter, whilst the lord of Ascendant is enjoying status, the native will be spending his life time in a holy place.

Y-4- In-spite of being an enemy, to lord of Ascendant, is posited in the Ascendant, if lord of Ascendant enjoys status, the native will be spending his life time in his place of birth.

Y-5- If lord of Ascendant is hemmed in between planets, who are inimical to him, the native will troubled by his enemies.

Y-6- If such lord of Ascendant (hemmed in between enemies) is conjunct or aspected by a benefic, the native will be free from troubles from enemies.

Dwelling- A person will dwell/live in the place of his birth, when a planet occupying the 12^th place from that of the lord of the Ascendant happens to be in exaltation or in a friendly house or is aspected by a planet that is friendly or is in exaltation or when that sign is occupied by a friendly planet.

Residence- When the lord of the 12^th place from that occupied by the lord of the Ascendant is in a Angle or Trine from the 1^st house i.e. Ascendant, and in a signs which is a friend’s house, its own or its exaltation sign and has auspicious planets on either side, the person born will be a sojourner in the regions pleasing to the heart.

If the said 12^th lord (Vyayash) referred to above be aspected by Jupiter, the Moon or Venus, he goes to a charmingly beautiful land; but

If from this (Vyayash) the 2^nd place is occupied by an inimical planet or be unfriendly to the latter, the person will reside in his native land.

Y-1- When a moveable sign is the Ascendant and its lord is in a moveable Signs and aspected by planets occupying moveable signs.

E- The person born will have his fortune in a foreign country.

Y-2- When an immoveable sign is the Ascendant and its lord is also in an immoveable sign, and aspected by planets occupying immoveable sign.

E- The person will remain in his own country, and will be lucky, prosperous and possessed of abundant wealth.

Y-3- When the lord of the 12^th house from that occupied by the lord of the Ascendant is the latter’s enemy or is in depression or weak.

E- The person born goes to a foreign country.

Y-4- (If the (Vyayash) referred to above be aspected by Venus in the capacity of a friend.

E- He will abide permanently there.

Y-5- His residence will be in a small township, if the same (Vyayash) be eclipsed by the Sun.

Y-6- If the (Vyayash) be possessed of strength, the house will be in a wealthy municipality.

Y-7- If the sign in the Ascendant is a moveable one or if the lord of the Ascendant is located in a moveable sign.

E- The native is mostly on the move.

Y-8- In case the Ascendant contains a moveable sign or if the Navamsa in the Ascendant belongs to a moveable sign.

E- The man is on the move mostly in life.

Y-9- If the Ascendant belongs to movable sign, its lord is a planet of fast movement and is aspected by a fast moving planet.

E- The native moves in foreign lands.

Y-10a- If the Lagna is a fixed sign and is associated with planets of slow motion (e.g. Jupiter).

E- The native remains in his own country in a wealthy and lucky condition.

Y-10b- In case the Lagna is under the influence of both movable and slow planets.

E- The native gets luck and fame through bad means by moving to different territories.

Now let us consider what is to be deduced from the various houses/bhava.

Effects of the First House                     

Indications of the First House: The First house basically represents Physique, appearance, intellect, complexion, vigour, weakness, joy and sorrow and innate nature. All these are to be considered from it.

The first Brava detailed significations and significations are: (1) Physical appearance or Body image (2) limbs (3) happiness and misery (4) old age (5) knowledge (6) birth potential (7) fame or constitution (8) dream (9) strength or natural vitality (10) dignity (11) politics (12) longevity (13) tranquility or peace of mind (14) age (15) hair (16) complexion (17) pride (18) livelihood (19) gambling as profession (20) natural general state of health and stigma (21) honour (22) Skin (23) sleep (24) proficiency (25) embezzlement (26) nature to insult and take revenge (27) freedom from sickness (28) detachment or renunciation (29) nature of individual (30) nature of work or agency (31) perseverance in cattle breeding (32) loss of sense of decorum and (33) Defamation by his own people i.e. clan or associates.

Significations- The body, its hue (colour and skin texture of person’s face), its form, its characteristics, fame, qualities, happiness or unhappiness, residence abroad, splendor, strength and weakness are the main significations, so say the wise astrologers, of the 1^st house.

Rising sign- The more auspicious the rising sign is, at a person’s birth, the longer will the native lives; the more will be command the respect of the rulers and the happiness and satisfaction be the result in his life time. And if the rising sign is also aspected by its lord, he will be a master of riches, quite a genius and a great asset to his family.

Rising Navamsa- An astrologer may declare the nature and peculiar features f a person from the lord of the rising Navamsa at his birth or from a powerful planet occupying the Ascendant. His hue should be guessed from the lord of Navamsa occupied by the Moon.

(All good and evil in the life of the person is to be ascertained through the Ascendant).

Size of Head –

Y-1- Sun conjunct Dragon’s Head in Ascendant denotes that.

E- The size of head of the native will be less than average, but his stature will be tall with long teeth and horse-like neck or bent neck.

Y-2- If the sign in the Lagna is of two hours duration, not when it is half of it.

E- The head of a native is big.

Physical well-being and comforts –

Y-1- If the Ascendant Lord is together with a malefic or is situated in the 6^th or 8^th or 12^th house.

 

E- He deprives the native of physical well-being and comforts.

Y-2- But if he is placed in a Kendra or a trikona (angle or trine), it indicates that.

E- The native will always enjoy bodily comforts.

Y-3- If the Ascendant lord were in combustion, in enemy’s sign or in his sign of debilitation.

E- It causes diseases.

N- Benefic being placed in an angle or trine from the Ascendant have been known to be destroyer of all diseases. Ascendant’s angles i.e. 1^st, 4^th, 7^th, and 10^th house or trine 5^th, 9^th house containing a benefi, is a powerful remedy for all problems related to health.

(The basic rule of Predictive Astrology is that the Lord of any Bhava or House, when placed in the 6^th or 8^th or 12^th house, it destroys the effects of the said house. The placement of the Ascendant Lord in these evil houses does indicate suffering or losses pertaining to the individual’s body, since the Ascendant is related to the whole body. When, the Ascendant is combined with a malefic planet also, the losses will be two folded. The Ascendant signifies the complete nativity in everyway and sense. Therefore along with the body, the native will have to suffer losses in respect of wealth, reputation, personality etc. The angles (1-4-7-10) and the Trines (5-9) in a horoscope have been regarded as auspicious or best houses. Therefore, the placement of the Ascendant Lord in these houses will be auspicious and beneficial for the body and rest of things; also, the placement of a benefic in an angle or a trine will be beneficial to the native.

If a planet is in combustion, in enemy’s sign or in his debilitation sign, it will destroy the effects pertaining to those houses which are his own houses and the house in which he is placed, will also suffer loss of its effects. On the contrary, a planet situated in his exaltation sign is considered beneficial and auspicious).
