An insight into Astrological Principles

The question of children arises after marriage. For knowing about the children, it is necessary, rather it is preferred to have the astro-analysis of the horoscopes of both the husband and wife. Among other factors, the role of Jupiter – the significator of children, 5^th house and 5^th Lord must be taken into account. Mars-Ketu influence on the 5^th lord and 5^th House may speak of surgery and ceaserian operation etc.

There are many theories about the number of children including the number of planets in the 5^th House and influence of planets on the 5^th house. But I find that the traditional astrological principles may not stand to test in view of various controlled methods not to have conception and have the child as per convenience of the couple. Be that as it may, the astrological principles continue to serve as a guinding force not following the controlled methods.

Early delivery and untimely births are also indicated by the planetary position and at the same time it may speak of some defects in the sexual organs of the couple and even of one of them. Remedial measures as per astrology may be beneficial if the lady is medically fit to conceive. I had seen the horoscope of a lady whose right tube was badly damaged and if at all the conception takes place, extra care may be needed under medical advice.

Survival of children mainly depend on the position of planetary forces at birth. There are bad Nakshtras including Gandha Nakshtras under which infant may not survive beyond a couple of days/months/years – here comes the need for propitiation of planets and God’s grace.

Now have a look on some of the following very important astrological principles:

1. If the lord of the 5^th house from the Ascendant (Lagna) or the Moon, and Jupiter are in the 2^nd, 3^rd, 4^th, 5^th, 7^th, 9^th, 10^th and 11^th places, or if the 5^th house has the aspect of a benefic planet or owner of the house or has association with a benefic, or if the lords of the 1^st and the 5^th are associated together, or aspect each other mutually, or occupy each other’s house, the birth of children is assured.

2. If the 5^th house counted from Ascendant (Lagna), the Moon or Jupiter is either associated with or aspected by a malefic and devoid of benefics or their aspects or when the 5^th houses have malefics on either side or the lords of the above houses are in the 6^th, 8^th or 12^th places, there will be no issue, even if propitiatory ceremonies are undertaken.

3. If a malefic owns the 5^th house and is posited there, the person will have issues. If a benefic owns the 5^th house and is posited there, the person will have issues. If a benefic owns the 5^th house and is posited there, and although he is associated with a malefic, the person will have many sons.

4. If Mars is in the 5^th house there will be loss of children. The signs of Scorpio, Virgo, and Leo are not good signs for issues, and if they happen to be the 5^th houses, the person will have limited progeny after a long time.

5. If the Sun is in the above bad signs for issues (Scorpio, Virgo and Leo), Saturn in the 8^th or in the Acendant; or Saturn in the 1^st, Jupiter in the 8^th and Mars in the 12^th: there will be issue, after performance of propitiatory ceremonies. Also when the Moon is in the 11^th and the 5^th house reckoned from Jupiter is occupied by a malefic, and there are many planets in the Ascendant (Lagna) the person will have a child late in life after doing propitiatory ceremonies.

6. If the Sun alone is in Cancer (of 5^th House), or when Mars or Venus alone is posited similarly in the 5^th (Cancer), the person will beget issue by his second wife. Saturn in such a position may give many children. If either the Moon or Mercury is similarly situated he will have few issues; and if Jupiter is posited in Moon’s (Cancer) house which is also the 5^th, he will have many daughters. The principle of Jupiter here giving daughters need testing with reference to actual Horoscopes.

EXTINCTION OF THE FAMILY – CHILDLESSNESS I.E. NO ISSUE/CHILD:-

7. In the following situations no child is indicated. If a malefic, Venus and the Moon are respectively in the 4^th, 7^th and 10^th places; if Venus and Mercury are in the 12^th, 8^th, 5^th and 1^st places; if Venus and Mercury are in the 7^th and Jupiter in the 5^th and malefics in the 8^th, 12^th and 1^st houses.

8. If a malefic is in the Ascendant, the lord of the Ascendant in the 5^th house, the lord of the 5^th in the 3rde house, and the Moon in the 4^th house the person will have no issue. It is stated by some wise men that for such a person even adoption of a son is of no use. Better we have more research in these principles.

9. If the Ascendant is in an odd sign (3, 5, 7, 9, 11) and the Moon is in the 5^th aspected by the Sun the person will be ever anxious for an issue, but in vain. (Adoption in such cases too is useless, it is stated.)

If the 5^th house is owned either by Saturn or Mercury and is aspected by or associated with Maandi or Saturn, or if the lord of the 5^th is weak and is not concerned with the lords of the 1^st and 7^th houses, the person will have to adopt a son. Connection in the 5^th house means the occupation by a planet in another’s house, associated with each other in some houses aspecting another planet, occupying the kendra of another, or in Trikona may also help.

10. If the lord of the 5^th house is debilitated, eclipsed or in an inimical house, or in conjunction with the lords of the 6^th, 8^th or 12^th eclipsed or in an inimical house, or in conjunction with the lords of the 6^th, 8^th or 12^th house, and if the lord of the 5^th house or if the 5^th house is not aspected by benefics there will be loss of children.

11. If the lord of the 5^th house, Jupiter, Mars and the Sun are in male Navaamsa, there may be male children. The Sun, Mars and Jupiter are male planets.

12. If the lord of the 5^th house is a male planet or posited in a male sign or amsa and aspected by or associated with female planets, the person will beget daughters.

13. Conception takes place when the Sun and Venus are possessed of strength (in the case of male) and pass through their signs or amsas identical with the 3^rd, 6^th, 10^th and 11^th places and in the case of females when the Moon and Mars are strong and transit through their signs or amsas.

14. The number of issues can be determined by the number of planets in the 5^th house, or where the lord of the 5^th house is posited, taking into account that they are not in inimical Navaamsa. It can also be determined by scrutinizing the number of bindus (benefic dots) in the 5^th house from Jupiter or the Navaamsa occupied by the Sun.

15 REMEDIAL MEASURES FOR GETTING A CHILD:-

(i) Worship lord Krishna by Purusha-Suukta hymns (Mantras).

(ii) Worship God Subrahmanya.

(iii) Worship Naagaraaja, the lord of the serpents. The threat of barrenness can be warded off.

(iv) On Navamee day, Sri Raamaayana of Vaalmiki can be read.

(v) On Ashtamee, the Sravana Vritam can be observed.

(vi) On Chaturdasee worship Lord Shiva (Rudra).

(vii) On Dwaadasee the Gods can be propitiated by liberal poor feeding. On Full Moon and New Moon days, the pitrus (manes) are to be propitiated – remember the dead.

(viii) In the dark half of the month, after dasamee, chances of conception with difficulty are possible. Worship ought to be resorted in the first third of the fortnight to the lord of the serpents, the second third to God ubrahmanya, and the final third to lord Vishnu. If the lord of the 5^th house is posited in its inimical or depression sign or is eclipsed, or occupies any of the 6^th, 8^th and 12^th houses or the lorde of any one of these houses be posited in the 5^th house, the person will be childless. By propitiating (divining) the daily tree or animal represented by the sign occupied by that planet the native has to perform the appropriate propitiatory ceremonies to ward of barrenness.

16 CURSES – REASONS FOR CHILDLESSNESS:-

(a) If the planet in question responsible for barrenness is the Sun, barrenness may be due to injustice done to Siva, Garuda, and the Manes.

(b) If it is the Moon, it is due to displeasure of mother, sumangalis (married women) and Durgaa.

(c) If it is Mars, it is due to some fault done to the village deity; Kaartikeya, to an enemy, or one’s daayaadis (cousins).

(d) If the planet is Mercury the curse may be due to youngsters, harming of cats or anger of Lord Vishnu.

(e) If the curse is due to Jupiter, it will be due to some harm done to the family deities, favourite priest, or the destruction of a fruit-laden tree.

(f) If it is Venus, it is due to cutting of flower plants, injury to chaste woman, cow or yakshas.

(g) If it is Saturn it may be due to cutting of aswatha (pipul) tree, or of lord Yama (lord of death) or through departed spirits, and the like.

(h) If Rahu occupies the 5^th house or is associated with the lord of the 5^th, childlessness may be the curse of a serpent.

(i) Ketu is there, it is due to a Brahmin’s curse.

(j) If it is Maandi it will be due to a curse from departed spirits.

(k) If Venus and the Moon in conjunction with Maandi are in the 5^th house, barrenness may be due to the killing of a woman or cow in the previous birth (incarnation).

(l) If Jupiter or Ketu in conjunction with Maandi when in the 5^th house childlessness may be due to the murder of a brahmin.

The several sins committed by one in his previous births are thus detailed; and appropriate propitiatory ceremonies to the several planets are recommended.

17 OTHER REMEDIAL MEASURES TO GET A CHILD:-

(I) A holy bath in Rameswaram, reciting of scriptures like Raamaayana, worship of Lord Siva and Vishnu, observance of holy austerities including Sraadha ceremonies, installation of the serpent-diety are the various other ways suggested for getting progeny.

(II) The birth of a son is possible during the dasaa period of the lords of the 7^th and 5^th houses or Jupiter, the planet aspecting the 5^th house, the lord occupying the 5^th, or the lord occupying the Ascendant or when Jupiter in his orbit transits the sign or Navaamsa Raasi occupied by the lord of the 5^th house.

(III) When the lord of the Ascendant comes during transit to his own sign or to his exaltation sign, to the 5^th house, to the sign occupied by the lord of the 5^th house, the birth of a son is possible.

(IV) From the conjunction of the lord of the Ascendant, the lord of the 7^th and the lord of the 5^th, the conception can take place in the Pratantra Dasha specially of the planet occupying the 5^th house, the planet aspecting it and the lord of the 5^th house.

(V) The conception is also possible during the Pratantra of the strongest of any one of the following:-

The lord of the 5^th house, Jupiter, or the lords respectively of the Rasis and Navaamsa occupied by the two planets.

(VI) When Jupiter in the course of transit passes through the Rasi or the Navaamsa occupied by Jupiter and the lord of the 5^th house, progeny is possible.

18 ROLE OF HORAR ASTROLOGY:-

One can predict the following events by a consideration of position of the several planets with regard to the Moon and the Ascendant at the time of a query: adoption of a son, investiture of sarcred thread, marriage, the girl’s puberty, or the time of conception, in the same way as he would if a birth had taken place at the time.

Use – Good for works of fixed nature – foundation laying, digging well, house building, upnayana, agriculture, starting service. Also all acts of Mridu nak.

Nak. Group – 2. Chara (Moveable) Monday

Nakshatr as – Swa, Pun, Sra, Dha, Sha

Use – For changeable activities – riding a vehicle, horse, journey. Also all acts of Laghu Nak.

Nak. Group  3 Ugra (Aggressive or Kroora) Tuesday

IV Panchak: When Moon transits Aquarius and Pisces (2^nd half of Dhanishta to Revati nak) it is called Panchak. It is avoided for cremation, traveling to south direction, weaving cots, accumulating woods, grass and thatching of roof.

1) If any body is cremated in Panchaka - ``Panchak Shanti’’ be done properly, otherwise it leads to five deaths in the same family. Alternatively may be there are five bad incidents in the same family. To ward off the panchak evil cremation is done with five Putlas (Pindas symbolizing the Putlas or five male or female figures).

2 Baana: It is also a Panchak but it is based on  (symbol)’s longitude. There are five types or Baana or Panchak as follows:

V Bhadra: When Vishti Karan prevails it is Bhadra period. Bhadra will be there in 1^st half of 8, 15, 22, 29^th and 2^nd half of 4, 11, 18, 25^th Tithis in a Lunar month.

1) Bhadra Niwas: Bhadra resides in various Lokas as per (symbol)’s sign as follows:

(i) (symbol) in 1, 2, 3, 8 signs: Heaven

(ii) (symbol) in 4, 5, 11, 12 signs: Earth

(iii) (symbol) in 6, 7, 9, 10 signs: Patal.

2) Bhadra is inauspicious in Loka where it resides. Therefore it is adverse when (symbol) is in 4, 5, 11 or 12 sign.

3) Auspiciousness of Bhadra: It is auspicious for Jaat Karma, barter transaction, cooking, Yagna, presenting something to the King, Propitiation of Lord Shiva and Parvati, Hari Talika Poojan and Holika.

VI Auspicious Tithi, Vaar and Nakshatra Yoga:

1) Ravi Yoga: When (symbol)’s Nak is 4, 6, 9, 10, 13 or 20^th from (symbol)’s Nak it is Ravi Yoga. It is benefic and has power to destroy all malefic effects.

8 It is generally observed that when 5H house is strong than 10H affairs suffer and vice versa. If 4H is strong than 12H affairs suffer and vice versa.

10 Aspect of any planet on its OH is always benefic.

11 A house hemmed between two malefics (Papakartari) or malefics in 5/9H or 4/8H from any house destroy significations of the house. The principle also holds when these reckoning is made from house Karaka.

12 A planets maleficence or beneficence also depends upon whether its dispositor in malefic or benefic.

3) Study Bhava Karaka – natural significations.

4) Bhava, its Lord & Karka are strong:

(i) In benefic sign, aspected by/conj. With strong benefic, its lord, friendly planets.

(ii) Subject to shubhkrtari.

(iii) Benefic planets in 4, 8 & 12^th from Bhava.

(iv) Benefic planets in 5^th/9^th from Bhava.

(v) Association conj./aspect of LL.

(vi) Placement of Lord of Bhava in Kendra/Tikona & not in 3,6,8,12^th from it.

5) Yoga from Rasi Chart.

III Signature of Planet:

1) Influences of strongest planet are Signature of Planet.

2) Portray the characteristics of that planet most strongly in their mental temperament.

3) Planets having chief influence:

(i) Planet in Lagna/10H

(ii) LL/10L

(iii) Strongest Planet in chart (when LL//10L weak).

2) AD Lord will have real say during his AD according to his position in the chart/Navamsha.

3) Antardasha effects:

(i) It DL is good and:

i) ADL is also good than good effects of both if they are related: i.w. when:

(i Mutual exchange,

(ii Conj./mutual aspect

(iii Mutual Kendra/Tikona.

ii) If ADL not related to DL only DL’s effects would be felt.

iii) Bad ADL related modifies DL’s effects.

iv) Bad ADL not related to DL only good of DL with traces of evil.

(ii) DL in the house owned by ADL becomes his tenant & its traits get changed according to ADL’s nature.

Strong, benefic and well placed - (symbol): Tranquility of mind, success comforts, child birth, marriage, gain from lands, building, Govt.

Weak & malefic – Sleeping disease, drowsiness, anxiety, diarrhea, jaundice, anemia, blood impurity, danger to mother, loss of property & loss through female.

Strong, benefic and well placed –  (symbol): Success in litigation; defeat of enemies, birth/prosperity to brother, and gain from land/mineral.

Weak & malefic – Failure in litigation & ventures, quarrels, brothers illness, property dispute, accidents, bilious, blood impurity, fever, BP, eye defect, appendicitis, throat problem etc.

Strong, benefic and well placed (symbol): Fame, education, knowledge, honor in sports, business gains, astrology, astronomy and maths.

Weak & malefic – Skin, anemia, mental, neurosis disorder, quarrel with friends, education failure, business loss, maternal death.

8 Privartana yoga: When two planets exchange houses, they gain strength and behave as if they are in his own houses. There are three categories:

(i) Maha Yogas: Mutual exchange of any two of the 2L, 11L, Kendra/Tikona lords give rise to 28 yogas promising wealth, status and physical enjoyment.

(ii) Dainya (misery) yogas: Exchange of 6L or 8L or 12L with rest of any house lord (except mutual exchange of 6/8/12L causing Vipareet RY giving financial prosperity and status) leads to wicked nature, persistent trouble from opponents and ill health (30 yogas).

(iii) Khala (combination for fickle & wickedness) yoga: eL exchange with lords of houses other than Trik houses ( 8 yogas).

9 Neech Bhanga Rajoga

10 Lagnadhi/Chandradhi yoga

11 Mutual exchange or conjunction of LL and Moon sign lord.

12 Amala yoga: (symbol) or (symbol) in 10H from Lagna or Moon.

13 Gaj Kesari yoga: (symbol) and (symbol) Kendra to each other.

14 Subhakartari yoga

15 Parijata yoga: dispositor of dispositor of LL in a good house.

16 Sakata yoga: (symbol) and (symbol) 6/8 or 2/12 to each other (cancelled if (symbol) is in Kendra to Lagna)

17 Kaala-sarpa yoga: all planets on one side of the nodes.

XI Interpretation of yogas:

1) Yoga formed in any house give auspiciousness of that house. 9L+10L

in 12^th may not be fully effective but increase signification of 12H forever.

2) Bad placement of yoga planet or ill placements of their dispositors may not give expected results.

3) Placements of nakshatra lords of yoga planets modify the results of yoga.

4) Strength of yoga planets or their nakshatra lords affects the results of yoga.

5) Friendliness of yoga planets modifies the result of yoga.

(6) The results are experienced in Dasha/Ad of yoga planets supported by helpful transit/Ashtakvargas.

XII Judgement of horoscope: Rules for interpretation: A planet, malefic for a particular Lagna, if strong it is harmful and weaker it is better is the result. The rules are given below:

1) Functional benefic do good to houses owned by them when in 2,11H, Kendra or Tikona and spoil and houses owned by them when in 3,6,8,12,H.

2) Functional malefic do bad to houses owned bythem when in 2, 11H, Kendra, Tikona and cause Vepareet Raj Yoga (they are took weak to cause any harm) when in 3,6,8,12H.

3) Natural benefic (strong (symbol), benefic associated (symbol), and (symbol)) do good to the houses with which they are associated and do good to their Karkattwas (significations) when in good houses i.e. 2,11H, Kendra, Tikona and bad to their Karkattwas when in 8,12H and gradual good in 3, 6H.

4) Natural malefics (weak (symbol), malefic associated (symbol) and (symbol)) do bad to houses with which they are associated and do good to their Karkattwas (significations) when in good houses i.e. 2,11H, Kendra, Tikona and bad to their Karkattwas when in 8,12H and gradual good in 3, 6H.

XIII Judgement of horoscope – other points for considerations:

1) A horoscope with planets in visible half (7H to 12H) is stronger and gives more auspicious results than planets in invisible half (Lagna to 6H).

2) Separative planets: (symbol) 12 and dispositor of 12L are separative planets and their influence causes separation.

3) Directional strength: (symbol) & (symbol) in 10: (symbol) & (symbol) in 4H; (symbol) & (symbol) in Lagna and (symbol) in 7H acquire directional strength. They are weak in 7^th from them. Also (symbol) & (symbol) loose much of their strength in 5H or 9H.

4) Well aspected LL and 8L in 6H or 12H give long life.

5) A planet owning two houses, when aspecting one of the houses owned by it also improves significations of the other house.

6) Interpretation from moola-trikona (MT) sign:

(i) A planet ill placed from its MT sign is adverse for the house even if it is OH. E.g. (symbol) in Scorpio for Aries Lagna does not give yoga for 8H significations.

(ii) If the MT sign of a planet falls in good house (2/11H or in Kendra/Tikona) and the planet is in good house counted from MT sign, it gives good result. If MT sign is in bad house (3/6/8/12H) and the planet falls in good house from MT, it gives bad results, but if the planet is placed in bad house it will give good results. For example – Sagittarius Lagna,  (symbol) in 5H give excellent result as it is badly placed

Health and Medical Astrology

Health is wealth and this version is accepted by all. Normally for Health problems we have to and must get to medical help. But it has been seen that even medical men fail to diagnose the particular disease and even there has been difference of opinion among the doctors whether the native is suffering from heart problem or some other problem. Be that as it may, both astrology and medical science can work together for the benefit of humanity at large. Few years back I had participated in a Dental Health Mela and after analysis by the doctor and astrologer, the news item was headed to say that both ‘Horoscope and Stethoscope’ can work together.

2. Astrology also covers all parts of the body and the Horoscope become indicative about th ill health of the native either as a whole or with regards to particular disease depending on the planet afflicting the particular body part. The ill health in general is indicated by the following:

- Weak lagna- rising sign,

- Planets rising in bad Nakshtras,

- Planets having no strength,

- Planets getting to bad positions in ‘Chalit’.

- And other related matters when a study is made of the Horoscope in totality

3. If doctors and astrologers combine together, they can serve better the patients thus resulting in great service to the natives.

4. Among remedial measures, astrologers suggest some Mantras (Meditation or Remembering the God or other deity) and so that doctor and patient normally do. Doctor would pray to the God for success in his operation and the patient would pray for early recovery etc. What the Astrologer would do is the same by helping the native to ward of the malefic influence of planets.

5. With reference to the rays of planets and their influences, I would say that a light became when passes through a prism alters its course, and that this ‘behavior’ is different in different prisms. In just the same manner the adverse or bad effects can be corrected by using certain remedial measures including previous gems. The rays of a planet at a certain angle are benefic to a person and the same rays become malefic at a different angle IF you can correct the angle artificially, you can, to a great extent, avert the bad effects and get some protection.

6. Suppose you are reading a book that your lamp is kept just in front of you, you may naturally feel irritated, as the light reaching the book is insufficient and also glaring to your eyes. Now alter the position of that lamp and take it to your back. Even then you will not feel comfortable. You will feel satisfied when it is kept to your side. You have corrected the angle of the lamp to give you maximum comfort. Similarly with regards to planets you cannot physically alter their positions but you can alter the angle of rays by using certain suggested remedial measures. Our ancient Rishis were quite aware of this and used to prescribe suitable “upayas”- remedial measures to lessen the bad effects of stars. This basic knowledge they had attained through their power of yoga and God gifted institution. The ancient Hindus had mastered this great art of controlling planets instead of being controlled by them.

7. Metals and herbs have the same properties as the planets, and hence their use in “upayas”. It is said that in the beginning, the whole universe was a blazing mass, and that when the mass at a certain stage, disintegrated, the universe was evolved with earth, Moon, Sun and other planets and stars. When all these planets were part of a single body, every planet must contain some matter akin to other planets. This knowledge apparently malefic made our ancient Rishis to search for such metals and herbs which would be useful to correct the effect of certain planets in certain angles. From times immemorial such remedies were being prescribed, but in recent times some disbelief is evident due to the wrong prescriptions given by quacks and pseudo experts including fake astrologers.

8. Please remember that it is physically impossible to alter the positions of planets. The only thing that we can do is to correct either the angle of rays emanating from the transiting bodies, or correct the vibrations of one’s own body. Both these methods are equally helpful. it is an established fact that everything in the universe is in constant motion and that it is constantly vibrating also.

9. Medical science has practically established beyond doubt that every brain produces these waves, when properly tested and that the encephalogram so produced will be different in each individual at different times. That shows these vibrations are subject to the circumstances prevailing including the mental attitude, and even voluntarily also can be altered, by means of constant practice of yoga.

10. Your mental vibration also to the Palm and Hand. It has been seen that by merely changing their signatures by dropping or adding one or two words, people have been benefitted. This is because all the written and spoken words have their origin in vibrations. That is how you create impression on others when you speak, every word has its own wave length, and as ‘such different types of reactions are produced’. So, now it is clear that by correcting the vibrations emanating from you, you can, to a great extent, alter the course of events in your life.

11. In the same way the Tantra Sastra tells us about different ‘sounds’ allotted to different Deities. And by content repetition of such prescribed sounds- Mantras, your vibrations become one with that of the ‘sound’ and as such an affinity is produced and you may be rewarded accordingly depending on your dedication and devotion. This method has been prescribed by Sages of the past and can find reference of same (Mantras, Sounds etc.) in Vedas and other Shastras including Tentra Shastras.

12. Meditation, recitation of Mantras and by means of ‘spiritual force’ diseases can be treated and also your mental vibrations can be altered. Such force can be transmitted to you in the form of a drink, ring, precious stone, or a mere piece of metal. But if you can yourself develop your will- power and can do Japa or sit in Samadhi, you can achieve great mental equilibrium, and a peaceful mind. There are certain mantras which when repeatedly uttered, actually bring you in tune with the Deity or planet whose favor you seek. Further it is said that some such mantras were given by Lord Shiva himself to his consort Parvati, who for the benefit of human beings made known to the Sages through the great Sage Narada.

13. The evil influences of planets can also be corrected by the use of certain metals and stones.
