Yoga is the sum of solar and lunar longitudes and can be said to be a luni-solar day. Like Nakshatras these are 27 in number. The names are suggestive of their nature. Malefics: 1-6-9-10-13-15-17-19 and 27th. Vyatipat (17) and Vadhreti (27) are particularly avoided in elections/Mahuratas.

SIGNS: The Ascending sign or lagna is of much importance in Election (Mahurata). Fag ends of the three Lagnas are malefics i.e. starting half ghatika of 1-5-9. And ending half ghatika of 4-8-12 are Lagnas Gandanthas are avoided in election. 1-5-11 are particularly avoided as lagans. One ghatika or 24 minutes on either side of the local Noon is called the Abhijit Muhurtha before or after Noon. It is best to have it as a Lagna when proper Muhurtha is not attempted or is not available or can not be waited for, it is good to start the work at this time.
CLASSIFICATION OF NAKSHATRAS
The 28 Asterisms (including Abhijit) are grouped into seven categories.
(a) KSHIPRA (Dynamic): Ashvini (1) Pushya (8) Hasta (13) Abhijit (21A). These are good for travel, dance, singing, wearing new clothes, make-up, attending beautyparlours, fine arts; acting and trading etc.
(b) UGRA (Violent): Bharni (2) Magha (10) Purva Phalguni (11) Purvashadha (20) and Purva. Bhadrapad (25). These five are ugra or violent Nakshatras. These are recommended for administering poison, igniting fires, killings with weapon, surgical operations, invasion or such other violent actions and are avoided for auspicious elections.
(c) MISHRA (Mixed): Kritika (3) and Vishakha (16) are two mixed Nakshatras. These are good for fire works such as starting kiln fires, boiler, welding, melting of metals, gas work, fabrications, mouldings, furnaces and electrolysis etc. They are avoided in auspicious elections.
(d) Dhruva (Fixed): Rohini (4) Uttara Phalguni (12) Uttarashadha (21) Uttara Bhadrapad (26). These four are dhruva Nakshatras. Work of fixed or immovable nature are done-during these, such as house-building, foundation laying, agriculture, horticulture, starting services- etc.
(e) Mridu (Gentle): Mrigshira (5) Chitra (14) Anuradha (17) and Revati (27) are four Mridu Nakshatras. These are good for all auspicious elections such as travel, dancing or singing, ceremonies, rituals, sixteen sanskars, occupation or business start, service etc.
(f) Char (Movable): Punarvasu (7) Swati (15) Shravana (22) Dhanishta (23) and Shatbhisha (24) these frive are Char Nakshatras. These are recommended for movable type of works such as travel, scooter, car, vehicle purchase and starting, machinery starting, factory, dance, singing and such other works in which motion is profitable or which can be completed within a small spell of time.
(g) Tikshan (Pungent or Volatile): Ardira (6) Ashlesha (9) Jyeshta (18) and Moola (19) are four Tikshan Nakshatras. During these Tantrik acts, Maran, Uchchaatan, Sorecery, Black Magic, Ugra-Siddhis, Ghosts and Evil Spirits, Vaital, Shamshan-Siddhi or all other such works which are violent in nature but the media of violence is confined to malefide intentions, thoughts, hypnotic suggestion, excluding physical force. This also includes Mantra-Siddhi, Ishta-Siddhi, making of Talisman, collecting herbs-Durga-Siddhi or other Hath-Yog pieces of work in which the violence is directed.
