There were three primary incarnation of the creator
LORD VISHNU viz, PARUSHRAM , RAM & KRISHNA.
As Parushrama he taught warfare ,as RAMA he lead by
example & followed rules/principles and as KRISHNA he broke all RULES .
As Parushrarma he gave knowledge to Bhishma, Drona
& Karan - all three were killed by his GUIDANCE to Arjuna as KRISHNA.
Your views as to why GOD had to choose three paths and
act differently in each of his incarnations or they are representing three
phases of a cycle - learning - following rules - breaking rules as they become
