3. Karaka/Significator
1.
Generally speaking, the characteristics and strength/weakness of various houses
(or Bhavas), Signs and planets are the same as given in Parashari system.
However in annual horoscopy or Prashna, the Karakas for various elements play a
very important role in predictive astrology. In Parashari system, emphasis is
given to the lordship of the houses, but in horary & annual horoscopy,
emphasis is given to the significations of the planets. Every house and planet
represents or signifies various elements. A planet signifies both corporal
(living relations) as well as non-corporal elements. The planets are called
Karakas of the elements/ matters they signify. Then there are planets who
signify certain matters with respect to certain houses/ Bhavas only and their Karakatwa is relevant to these houses only.
2.
Principles
of judging Karaka’s effects in a nutshell are as under:
a)
The positioning / aspect of a house lord in its own house, adds strength to it.
The Karaka positioned in the relevant house may be bad, but its aspect it
always adds dignity to the concerned house.
b)
When a Karaka is in the 1 h house, its significations prosper, but lordship of
the planet suffers heavily. E.g. Jupiter in the 2nd house gives
prosperity to the houses (2, 5, 9, 11) to whom he is a Karaka, but adversely
affects the two houses (Sagittarius & Pisces) of his lordship. Thus one is
fortunate in respect of that house whose Karaka is in 12th from the
lagna.
c) Karako Bhavanashaya: Significations of
any house consist of two parts- corporal and non-corporal. A karaka in his own
house afflicts the corporal part only e.g. Mars in 3rd house
afflicts younger siblings, Jupiter in 5th afflicts children and Sun
in 9th afflicts father. But non-corporal part remains unaffected
such as courage in 3rd house, wisdom in 5th and spirituality
in 9th house. The affliction by the Karaka as mentioned above is
considerably minimized, If this karaka establishes some relationship with the
house lord.
d)
The conjunction of a house lord and the Karaka in a Trika house (6, 8, & 12) is bad, but their occupation of
Kendra/ Trikone house, gets vitality for good if not subjected to Paapkartari Yoga.
e)
The Karaka becomes ineffective in a house, if it is conjunct with a malefic.
3.
The planets represent various corporal matters in houses mentioned against each
as under:
1.
Sun-Father in 9th, boss in 10th and paternal uncle in 11th
house.
2.
Moon- Mother in 4th house.
3.
Mars- Younger siblings in 3rd & step-mother in 6th
house.
4.
Mercury- Adopted son in 5th, Maternal uncle in 6th,
business partner in 7th and friends in 11th.
5.
Jupiter- Father-in law in 3rd, Son (1st son in 5th,
2nd in 7th & 3rd in 9th house),
Husband in 7th, Guru in 9th and older sibling in 11th
house.
6.
Venus- Wife in 7th house.
7.
Saturn – Servants in 3rd house.
8.
Rahu- Paternal grandfather in 5th house.
9.
Ketu- Maternal grandfather in 12th house.
4.

Conclusion
It may be stated that the
Varshaphala provides a magnified and closer view of events pertaining to a
given year of life of the native. It gives excellent results when integrated
with a proper study of the birth chart. Years of practical experience on
predictions on Varshaphala/ annual horoscopy have shown that it is basically an
offshoot of Parashari system. While delineating annual charts, basic Parashari
principles cannot be ignored an have to be followed for correct predictions.
The knowledge of the basics of the Parashari system thus becomes essential in
order to understand and apply Tajika system for the annual horoscopy. However
it must simultaneously be admitted that application of Tajika system has
provided a supplementary/ confirmatory role in making predictions in annual
horoscopy. Therefore most of the Vedic astrologers follow a comprehensive
combined approach while analyzing annual chart.
