8.2 Retrogression of Jupiter

8.2.1 During its orbit around the Sun, on an average, Jupiter is retrograde for 120 days with 5 days stationary period before & after retrogression. Diversity of opinions is there regarding the effects of retrograde Jupiter by Vedic as well as Western astrologers. The favourable influence of Jupiter during retrogression is considerably reduced and falls short of its efficacy in good results which would otherwise be indicated. It implies delay or denial in its objective actions. Retrogression affects the matters pertaining to the affairs of the house, which Jupiter rules. If it was retrograde at birth, it means that during this life time, until it completes its retrogression by progression, one deals with things that have causes or beginning in one’s previous birth and now needs attention. On a positive level, it gives unconventional/ different advice on various issues looking at a different view point. Jupiter, being a karaka of children & husband, during retrogression, definitely promises a child or husband who is different. However retrogression deprives Jupiter of its Kendra-dhipati dosha.

8.2.2 The effects of a planet are usually very strong when it is stationary over a planet or a point in the natal chart. During transit, when Jupiter resumes direct motion exactly upon a sensitive point or planet in the birth chart, it produces dramatic results with a new positive turn of future. Jupiter, stationary-retrograde may withdraw or delay opportunities, while stationary-direct Jupiter restores the progress and plan for future. A retrograde planet in the 4th from Jupiter hinders progeny happiness. Natives with Jupiter (R) in birth chart find success in failure of others. They predict disaster where others see success and vice versa. Their flexibility becomes key to success in situations which involves an unknown element or a chance factor.

8.2.3 Traditionally in India, marriages, auspicious events and new ventures are not planned when Jupiter is retrograde. When Jupiter transits a sensitive point in birth chart, due to triple transits a sensitive point in birth chart, due to triple transit caused by retrogression, its potential significance accumulates and is indicative of a turn of future. A retrograde Jupiter during transit in 2nd house indicates a time to collect debts, go through the past accounts and make application of any past credit. When Jupiter becomes direct, it will be a time to go all out on a new financial venture or rise in salary. When a retrograde Jupiter transits houses- 1st, 3rd, 6th, 8th or 12th, the evil results will be reduced, but existing diseases & worries would aggravate. The effects of transit of retrograde Jupiter in houses- 2nd, 4th, 5th, 7th, 9th & 11th, normally produces good results.
