Rationale of Adhi Yoga Part 3

Dr. Shanker Adawal
\
Part 3

It would be equally erroneous if we consider, to hold (as held by the learned contributor) that in the case of Chandradhi Yoga, Maharishi Parasara requires that all the three benefic planets should occupy only one of the three stipulated houses (6th, 7th and 8th). The Sloka from Brihat Parasara quoted in the beginning of this article does not, to our mind, admit of this interpretation. Our view is that the intention of the father of Indian astrology is to refer to the individual position of the three benefics and not to their combined presence in one of the stipulated houses. And it seems to us, in company with so many others, that the Maharishi’s emphasis is on the benefic nature of the planets taking part in the said yoga rather than on the fact that a plurality of planet should be involved in a single house.

What then is the correct rationale that would explain the benefic results accruing from this wonderful yoga? The correct rationale to our mind would be to hold the second theory referred to above as valid. According to the second theory, what is of utmost importance is not the position as such of benefics in the stipulated houses, but the position as such of the Moon with reference to those benefics. The centre of our attention should be the Moon and the position of the benefics should be considered as subverting and helpful to the Moon. How? When any strong benefic planet is placed in the 7th from the Moon, it is quite clear that the aspect of that benefic would greatly benefit the Moon. The Moon being one of the three Lagnas (Lagna, Chandra Lagna and Surya Lagna), any strong benefic influence on the Moon will naturally enhance the Moon’s characteristics and traits as a Lagna, such nice traits for example, as health, wealth and power. So much for the benefic planet studied in the 7th from the Moon.

As regards the planets in the 6th and the 8th from the Moon, let us consider for a moment the fact that a planet in the 6th house throws its influence on the 12th house, while the one placed in the 8th house throws its influence on the 2nd house. We can thus easily see that in the event of the 6th and the 8th from the Moon being occupied by strong benefics, the houses adjoining the Moon would be under great benefic influence and thus the Moon would, thereby, be placed in between two strong benefics influences, as if the Moon has a Subhakartari.

Thus, the net result in the case of Chandradhi Yoga is that the Moon’s strength is boosted not only by the beneficial aspect he receives from the benefic planet placed in the 7th from him but also by the beneficial strength he gets by being surrounded by beneficial influences. The principle that the planets placed in the 6th and the 8th influence the house or planet etc., from which they are so placed is not our innovation. The principle is recognized by no less an authority than the grerat Varaha Mihir Acharya, who has stated in Sloka:-

Chakrasya poorvaparabhagageshu krooreshu soumyeshu cha keetalagne
Kshipram vinasam samupaihi jathaha papairvilagnasthamayabitascha.

He opined that early death is brought about, inter alia, by malefic occupying the two houses adjoining the Lagna and the 7th house. Obviously both the sets of planets would adversely affect the Lagna and thus bring about early death.

In the above discussion about Chandradhi Yoga, we have adversely qualified the benefics situated in the 6th, 7th and 8th houses from the Moon by the use of the adjective strong. This is in keeping with the spirit of Maharishi Parasara s also with the modus operandi of the second theory advocated by us for it is easily seen that stronger the beneficvs in the three stipulated houses, the stronger the Moon becomes and as such the better the results. This is the reason why the Maharishi has given the best result, viz., a kingship to the strongest position of the three benefics and the least good results, viz., generalship of the least strength of the benefics.

Since Mercury and Venus are also constituents of Chandradhi Yoga, and since there are many chances for these planets to be in close proximity with the Sun, they are apt to become weak by that proximity and thereby fail to throw adequate benefic influence on the Moon, thus detracting from the value of the yoga. To guard against a mis-judgement of the strength  of the Moon in such an event, it was but appropriate for subsequent authors like those of Saravali etc., to issue the warning that the stipulated beneficvs must not only be free from affliction by association or aspect, but must also be away from the Sun in order to give the best results of the yoga.

Such indeed is the importance in astrology of the Moon on which man is walking these days!

Rationale of Adhi Yoga Part 2

Dr. Shanker Adawal

Part 2

Similarly, there is to our knowledge no sanction for the statement made by the learned contributor that a karaka posited in the 12th from the karaka house becomes powerful. There is an extraordinary statement to make. Jupiter karaka or significator of the 9th placed (in the 12th from the 9th) in the 8th, on the other hand, definitely becomes weak, since any house and lord if situated in the Trik houses (6th, 8th and 12th) does harm to the significators. This is obviously possible only on the basis of the planet coming to the Trik houses losing strength. For Jupiter’s position in the 8th house – the author of Phaladeepika says:

Deeno jeevato sarvya kalashabag deerghayurijye ashtame.

That is, when Jupiter is in the 8th in any horoscope, the native becomes poor, lives by service, is sinful, but lives long (the 8th house gets benefited, while the traits of Jupiter as karaka for wealth, dignity and morality suffer). The traits of Jupiter suffer because of the weakness of Jupiter in the 8th house.

In female nativities, Jupiter is karaka or significator of the husband. Will his position in the 6th house be conducive to the health and longevity of the husband on the plea that Jupiter, being placed in the 12th from the 7th, the karaka house of the husband, shall be considered as strong and as such conducive to the longevity etc., of the husband? I am afraid not. On the other hand, such a position will weaken Jupiter and would create rift between husband and wife in addition to subtracting the longevity of the husband, since one of the main factors relevant to the consideration of longevity of the husband, viz., Jupiter, would be adversely placed not merely from the house of the partner (12th from it) but also from the Lagna (6th from it).

A similar question may be raised in regard to Mars. Mars is karaka or significator for younger brothers, i.e., for the 3rd house. Will occupation, by Mars, of the 2nd house, i.e., the 12th from his karaka house be conducive to the strength of Mars? The answer is a definite no, as Mars in the 2nd house is useless according to the authority of Jatakabharana already cited.

The reader might intervene at this stage and ask what about Jupiter, Karaka for 5th (sons) (Placed in the 12th from the 5th), in the 4th house or what about Jupiter, karaka for the 11th (elder brothers) placed in the 10th house, i.e., 12th from the 11th? In such cases, it would be seen that the 4th and 10th houses are Kendra houses. Jupiter in these two cases would get strength, no doubt, but not because of his position (12th from karaka) but because of his position in a Kendra.

In the case of Mercury placed in the 7th from the Moon in Chandradhi Yoga, how can the theory of benefics placed in bad houses being conducive to the occupied houses,  be applied as the 7th house has nowhere been classified in general as a bad house for any planet to occupy, except of course for purposes of health and disease as a maraca house. But then we must not forget that the context, i.e., Chandradhi Yoga, is not relative to disease but to affluence and power as is quite evident from the fact that the good results accruing from Chandradhi Yoga relate to such items of power and affluence as kingship, ministership and generalship.

Assuming, however, for argument’s sake, that the 7th house is a bad house, what we could say at least for Mercury’s position (7th from the Moon) is that Mercury, a malefic planet, owning in the natural horoscope two bad houses, viz., the 3rd and the 6th, destroys the bad qualities of the 3rd and 6th houses and thereby generates good. But even in that event, all texts require (and logic also demands) that the evil planet in an evil house in order to give bad results for the 3rd and the 6th houses, should be devoid of benefic influence. But what is the actual position of Mercury in the type of Chandradhi Yoga considered by the learned contributor? Mercury is aspected by the strong benefic Moon, for the Moon must be considered as strong in Paksha Bala – his main source of strength, as he would be very much away from the Sun, being very much away from Mercury and Venus in whose vicinity the Sun always remains. Apart from the Moon’s benefic influence on Mercury, he has Subhakartari or the surrounding benefic influence of Jupiter and Venus. How can, therefore, Mercury harm the prospects of the 3rd and the 6th (poverty and debts) or harm the prospects of the 7th house – life partner etc.? On the other hand, it would be legitimate and logical to assume that by virtue of the strong and good position of Mercury as lord of two evil houses he would enhance the evil effects of these houses and would, therefore, be instrumental in bringing about poverty – a strange finale to Chandradhi Yoga indeed!

Hence it is quite clear that the excellent results rightly attributed to Chandradhi Yoga by Maharishi Parasara and other celebrated authors do not arise as a result of some change being introduced in the 6th, the 7th or the 8th from the Moon.

Rationale of Adhi Yoga Part 1

Dr. Shanker Adawal

Part 1

A number of articles have been written on Adhi Yoga. Various learned contributors have very rightly pointed out by discussion that Adhi Yoga is one of the best Yogas for affluence and power. A very good attempt has also been made by them to explain the rationale behind the good effects of this most important yoga. It, however, appears that something more can be said on the subject particularly on the rationale and hence the following lines.

Before we go into the rationale of this most important and useful yoga, we should better reproduce the Sloka from Maharishi Parasara himself, the Sloka that forms the basis of our present discussion. Dealing with Chandradhi Yoga he avers:

Chandradrandrari kamasthathi somyais – Yadadhiyogakaha
Tatra raja cha mantra cha senani cha Balakramat.

That is, from the position of the Moon, if there are in the 8th, the 6th or in the 7th house, natural benefic planets, then Chandradhi Yoga is constituted. When the yoga is formed, you have a king or a minister or a general, respectively, in the descending order of the strength of benefic planets involved.
Two theories may be said to exist in regard to the rationale behind this vital yoga. The first theory lays stress on the position, as such, of benefic planets in stipulated houses, i.e., the houses counted 6th, 7th and 8th from the Moon. The second theory lays stress on the Moon vis-à-vis placed in the 6th, 7th and 8th from benefic planets.

Sri B. N. Addy is of the opinion that Adhi Yoga is in the natural of a yoga of conversion from malefic to benefic effects by benefic occupation. In more plain words, what the learned contributor means is that a natural benefic, for example Venus, when placed in a bad house, say the 6th, changes as it were the nature of the house from bad to good to the advantage of the native.

We cannot subscribe to the above view. Our submission is that the 6th house as its very name Roga House, signifies, stands for disease, and such other undesirable traits as debts and enemies. Destruction of disease would obviously require that the disease should be adversely effected, that is to say, that the house of disease – the 6th should be occupied or aspected by malefic planets. If occupied by a benefic planet, the 6th house, to our mind, should prospere and lead to more and more disease and debts, etc. How then can be occupation of the 6th house by a benefic change it into one of plenty, instead of death as it actually is?

The statement of learned contributors in the same article to the effect that Venus in the 6th and Jupiter in the 8th house becomes powerful, being karaka planets placed in the 12th of the concerned Bhavas has also to be taken with a pinch of salt. We are aware of the opinion of the author of Venus Bhavartha Ratnakara to the effect that the 6th house position of Venus confers yoga and affluence but then it is nowhere stated by the author that affluence is the result of that position. In fact the author of Uttarakalamrita holds the same view when he says, Shashtastho subhakrit kavihi, i.e., Venus in the 6th house does good. Here again it is not stated that the good in question accrues from the strength acquired by Venus by virtue of position in the 6th house, Venus, in every text-book, is considered useless in the 6th. For example, the author of Jataka Parijata says:

Sananurindhu sasijaschaturthe gurusute
Bhoomisutaha kutumbe bhrigu saptame ravijaha
Kalatre vilagnashe viakala bhavanti.

That is, the Moon with the Sun and Mercury in the 4th house, Mars in the 2nd, Venus in the 6th and Saturn in the 7th from Lagna become useless. Obviously Venus in the 6th could not be considered as powerful.

And yet there is no contradiction between the statements of the author of either Uttarakalamrita or of Bhavartha Ratnakara. Venus in the 6th is considered as week by all canons of astrology and as such would give bad and undesirable results both in regard to the traits of the house over which he has lordship and in regard to his karaka properties such as wife. But as he is a planet of luxury, his aspect on the 12th, house of luxury and enjoyment enhances these qualities under the law of similitude. Hence Venus in the 6th is both good and bad – good for financial prospects and bad for relational prospects, wife, etc.

Operation of Raja Yoga Part 3

Dr. Shanker Adawal

Part 3

Chart No. 2.- Female born on 6-0-1918 at 2-5 p.m. at Kolar.

Here is the horoscope (Chart No. 2) of a lady who was married at the age of 2 without any pretences in life. She has been put to severe struggles in bringing up her family, sacrificing both material and physical comforts. We see some combinations here also. The Sun and Mercury are vargottamas. There is exchange of houses between the lords of the 9th and the 10th.

The native had Saturn Dasa from 16-8-1946 to 1965. Saturn is lord of Lagna and the 2nd. Though in the 8th sign, he is in the 7th Bhava. From Chandra-Lagna he is lord of Lagna and the 12th. Saturn gave her all material comforts, but dealt here a big-blow by snatching away a grown-up son from the family. The native at present is having Mercury Das from 16-8-1965. Mercury is lord of the 9th and is in the 10th with the 8th lord Sun, who though debilitated  has neechabhanga (cancellation of debilitation). Venus  has exchanged his house resulting in Neechabhanga Raja Yoga. So naturally the results due to Mercury will be slow.

Balance of Rahu Dasa: 11 years and 10 months.

If the Houses involved are the 10th or the 11th or the 9th, a powerful Raja Yoga is said to be formed. The results will be wealth, fame and affluence. We find several blue-paints to this otherwise powerful combination. The first affliction is due to the disposition of the Sun lord of the 8th. Though  he is debilitated he has neechabhanga. The 6th lord Mercury is aspected by 3rd & 12th lord Jupiter. The implication will  be opposition, reverses and disappointments in respect of good efforts. But Mercury is not sterile as such. From Chandra-Lagna Mercury gets fortified considerably. He is lord of the 5th and has a exchanged his house with Yogakaraka Venus. He is aspected by Jupiter lord of the 2nd and the 11th. Moreover, Mercury has exchanged his constellation with inimical Mars who is lord of the 10th and the 3rd from Chandra-Lagna. Thus from Chandra-Lagna Mercury is more dignified. The first three years of Mercury Dasa will pass off without much significance. But with advent of second part of Venus Bhukti in Mercury Dasa, possibly after 1970 October, the native will receive the blessings of the Yoga in the form of wealth, expansion of her ambitions and foreign tours. Mercury the planet of air-travel is in a chararasi and is lord of the 9th and is in the 10th. This indicates that she will undertake foreign tours and will be invited to spread her knowledge of the art she is pursuing. The native will enjoy the Yogas fully in the second half of Mercury Dasa particularly after 1973 April/May.

Chart No. 3- Born on 21-5-1940 at 7-50 a.m. at Bangalore.

Balance of Jupiter Dasa: 1 year, 7 months and 6 days.

This is the chart of a young man born in an aristocratic family. The native have been having Mercury Dasa since 1960 November.

Mercury as lord of Lagna is in the 12th aspected by the 2nd lord Moon from the 6th house. The Moon is debilitated but he has neechabhanga. The native started his career by taking jobs on meager salaries. The disposition started his career by taking jobs on meager salaries. The disposition of Lagnadhipati accounts for it. But with the advent of Venus Bhukti’s second part, the native is fairly well off.

From Chandra-Lagna we shall study the position of Mercury.  Mercury is lord of the 8th and the 11th, the house of financial gains. He is in the 7th, the house of business with the Sun the 10th lord aspected by the Moon the 9th lord. Thus we find that from Chandra-Lagna Mercury is excellently disposed. The above combinations result in a series of Raja Yogas indicating affluence, prosperity and acquisition of vehicles.

The above results will be realized in the second half of Mercury Das to start after October/November, 1969. The debilitation of Mercury in amsa indicates slow progress in all attempts. Since Mercury is inherently strong from Chandra-Langa the debilitation effects get neutralized. More so, because he has caused Adhi Yoga. Thus Mercury from Chandra-Lagna is considerably fortified.

We can see another combination. Lord of the 9th Saturn and lord of the 10th Jupiter have caused a Raja Yoga in the 11th, the house of financial gains. Though Saturn is neecha, he has neechabhanga. It has been found that people who have neechabhanga Yoga will prosper well financially.

But the native has spent both his Jupiter and Saturn Dasas in his childhood. We shall have to see whether the fruits of their Bhuktis will be enjoyed during other Dasas. Kethu Dasa will operate from 1977 onwards. Kethu is to give the results of Jupiter. From Chandra-Lagna Jupiter is rendered highly significant as lord of the 2nd and the 5th with the 4th lord in the 6th resulting in Adhi-Yoga. So from the second half of the Mercury Dasa to end of Kethu Dasa, the native will have full prosperity.

Operation of Raja Yoga Part 2

Dr. Shanker Adawal

Part 2

From a horoscope, it may not be possible to delineate the native of his birth whether  he will be born in poor or rich or royal families. This is evident from Brihat Jataka which says when dealing with Raja Yogas that if the Yogas are effective, a man born in poverty will become a king and a person born in rich families will become an emperor. The above proposition makes it clear that it is difficult to predict the nature of the family in which a person takes his birth. Now we shall take a few horoscopes and see how far these Yogas are effective in the light of the Dasas the natives may enjoy.

Chart No. :- Born on 8-8-1912 at 7-25 p.m., at Bangalore.
Balance of Mars Dasa: 6 years, 2 months and day.

may be noted:- Three kendras or angles are occupied. Unless Jupiter is 13 degree 20’ to 16 degree 40’ in Scorpio it can not be Vargottama, Mercury is Vargottama. The Moon is not only exalted but is having digbala or directional strength by virtue of his disposition in the 4th house.

Chatussagara Yoga is present, which is said to be formed when all the Kendrasa are occupied. Here three kendras are occupied. The Yoga can be said to be 80% present. Saturn, the Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars and Jupiter are responsible for the Yoga. The Moon is fortified considerably though he has no akshabala, for the simple reason that  he is exalted and is having digbala. Since the native is not likely to enjoy the Moon’s Dasa; nothing can arise out of it. But this disposition accounts for the native’s shrewdness, intellectual ability and high power of understanding. Jupiter has not only caused the above Yoga but he has formed Gaja-Kesari also. Further Jupiter is in the 10th which is the most ideal position. Jupiter Dasa operated from 9-10-1936 to 9-10-1952. When Jupiter Dasa began the native had started from the scratch but before the Dasa concluded, he had established and organization employing several people and built himself up into an institution. Further Jupiter is lord of finances and gains. He acquired a fine house and vehicles.

Saturn’s Dasa will end by about 1971. He is lord of Lagna aspected by Jupiter. From Chandra Lagna (natal Moon) he is highly fortified since  he is a Yogakaraka and is aspected by the 11th lord Jupiter from the 7th house. The native has been the recipient of the blessings of this Yoga in the form of his being visited by, audience, Cabinet Ministers, high dignitaries, etc.; honour in foreign countries and world-wide recognition and influence.

From 1971, the native will have Mercury Dasa. Mercury is lord of the 5th and is vargottama. He is with the 10th lord Mars and yogakaraka Venus and is disposed in the 7th house. We find here the ample influences of trinal and angular lords generating several Raja Yogas. From Chandra-Lagna Mercury is lord of the 2nd and the 5th and is in the 4th with Venus lord of Chandra-Lagna and Mars lord of the 7th. From Chandra-Lagna also he is equally well placed. The Yogas are quite powerful. So throughout the duration of Mercury Dasa operating for 17 years, the native will enjoy its fruits in the form of trips abroad, contacts with personalities of the world, acquisition of posh vehicles, etc. Note Mercury is karaka for air-travels. Venus is karaka for sea voyage. So during this period the native will undertake frequent air and sea travels. Perhaps Mercury Dasa will take him to the pinnacle of glory in profession, finance and fame.

Operation of Raja Yoga Part 1

Dr. Shanker Adawal

Part 1

In this article I propose to show when Raja Yoga or combinations indicating affluence, power and wealth are likely to operate. The word Yoga means combination. Merit presence of Yogas does not always indicate good. Such a combination or Yoga may be for good or bad. Raja Yoga on the contrary indicates affluence and prosperity. Raja Yoga depends upon the planets which form it. If the Yoga is purely a malefic combination, then the native will not have mental peace and satisfaction in spite of all material comforts and affluence. He will be arrogant, proud and haughty. On the other hand, if it is formed by benefics, the native derives satisfaction from a sense of gratitude to God. He will be polite, courteous and spends his acquisitions in approved ways.

Mere presence of a number of Raja Yogas by itself is not enough, unless the planets forming such Yogas have sufficient strength, i.e., free from the influence of the lords of the 6th, the 8th and the 12th.
Dasa (main period) must operate at a proper time. Here by proper time means the age when a man attains maturity. There is no point in a child having Yoga or an infirm man getting such Yogas. The sages themselves say that the Yogas become inoperative if they do not occur at the proper age. The presumption is that Yogas operating between 18 and 50 years are likely to yield much benefits.
The question may arise whether the operation of Yogas at inappropriate ages is an act of destiny. The answer is in the affirmative, since the basis of Hindu astrology hinges on the law of Karma. It has been found that many people will have lost their very good Yogas in earlier childhood and some have indications of enjoying them after 70 or 80. In between these periods, ordinary Dasas operate and the man may have to lead an insignificant life both materially and mentally. Very few are destined to enjoy the fruits.

Here, of course, the arrangement is purely an act of God. By arrangement it is meant that the order of Dasa-Bhuktis which may be good or bad is God-determined.
The time we reckon for the birth of a child is the time when the child is completely severed from the umbilical cord of the mother.

Though surgery claims that severance is within its powers, practically it has been found that the severance always takes place at a particular time.

The following few classical rules may be noted-Satyacharya says: “Presence of the Yogasa in the absence of the conditions mentioned above is like moonlight to a blind man.” Kalyana Varma says: “Raja Yogas have a potency of their own and vitality affect a horoscope.” Jataka Alanakara (Sl. 1, Adh III) says: “It has bee declared by the ancient sages Vasishta, Sukra, Parasara, etc., that several Yogas whether good or bad in the nativities of human beings depend on the planets constituting them, and that the effects of turn depend upon the Yogas. “When the planets are ill-placed, the man is dwarfed. In the case of a planet owning two houses, the house which happens to be Moolatrikona will predominate and its effects alone will be felt full while the effects of own house will be half. The effects of both the Bhavas will come to pass in the Dasa of the planets.

The above views should be borne in mind while analyzing the Yogas. Such references ca be found in the works of Varahamihira who mentions his predecessors such as Vasishta, Gargi, Parasara, Vyasa, Badarayana, Soma, Kasyapa, Satyacharya, Yavana, Chanakya and Vishnugupta.

Raja Yogas form as a result of combinations of trinal and angular lords in favourable houses such as the 1st, the 4th, the 7th, the 10th and the 11th. If lords of the 6th, the 8th or the 112th are in conjunction or in those houses jointly or singly Vipareetha Raja Yoga is formed. The results of such combinations will be that the native will rise to fame all of a sudden followed by immediate downfall or will have short-lied glory and affluence.

On Viparitha Raja Yoga in Vedic Astrology

Dr. Shanker Adawal

Kalidas has mentioned in his book “Uttara Kalamrita” – Kanda 4 Sloka 22 the disposition of planets which cause Viparitha Raja Yoga, i.e. “if the lords of the houses 6, 8 and 12 occupy either jointly or individually the houses 6, 8 and 12 or if they are mutually placed in 6 or 8 or 12 with each other of if they are in any manner connected with the houses 6 or 8 or 12 or if they mutually interchange their places and provided these planets do not have any connection with other planets not owning 6 or 8 or 12, then the person will be a king and he will command much wealth. He will establish a good name and enjoy his life.”

All the Hindu sages have unanimously declared that the houses 6, 8 and 12 counted from lagna or from any Bhava arre detrimental to lagna or that Bhava to which a planet happens to be the lord of 6 or 8 or 12 counted from that Bhava. So 6, 8 or 12 are said to be unlucky houses and indeed evil.
Not only the lords of the houses become adverse but also planets posited in these houses are still worse. Occupants are stronger than the owners. Therefore, planets occupying 6, 8 and 12 must be worse than the lords of the houses.

When the lords of the houses and also planets deposited in those houses are considered to be undesirable then normally one will expect that lords of these houses occupying and above said houses must be causing untold miseries. But, actually, in practice, it was found that under certain circumstances these planets owning these evil houses and also occupying such houses cause brilliant results which are unexpected and it is a `Viparitha’ to normal expectation and intelligent anticipation. Actually when we enjoy Raja Yoga, it is a `Viparitha’ and so it is termed as `Viparitha Raja Yoga’. 6th house indicates disease, debt, difficulty and dispute; 8th house shows loss, swindling, secret inimical activity, depression etc. Therefore nobody would like to have any of the matters signified by the 3 houses.

One may ask `How can lords of 6 and 8 in mutual exchange cause `Viaritha Raja Yoga?’

If lagna represents the person, than the 7th house stands for the opponent. The 6th house to a person is 12 to the 7th, i.e. `Viaya’ house, and the 8th house will be the second to the 7th. It is a well known fact that an interchange between the lords of the houses 2 and 12 bring loss of wealth, loss of members in the family, loss of eye sight and defective speech etc. Therefore, when the opponent loses, the native gains. That is why the interchange between the lords of 6 and 8 bring about beneficial results to the native, success in competition, in litigation, winning in election by the transit of the planets 6 and 8.

In my friend’s horoscope lords of 6 and 8 were in mutual exchange and he had been running the conjoined period of these two planets. My friend did not work hard for a victory in the election. But he  had an opponent who spent most extravagantly. His friends were much benefited monetarily but they were not true to him. Actually they voted for my friend accepting money from his opponents and my friend had a thumping majority. Thus if lords of 6 and 8 are mutually exchanged due to the secret inimical activity, the opponent will lose and the person will gain.

This rule will not apply to Capricorn lagna born as lord of 6th is Mercury and lord of 8th is Sun. Mercury and Sun cannot occupy Gemini and Leo causing mutual exchange, i.e. Parivarthanan Yoga. Further, it is not necessary that planet should interchange the houses 6 and 8. But if they are occupying the constellations of lord of 6 and lord of 8, i.e. the lord of 8 in the constellation of lord of 6 will produce the above said Yoga. Even in such Yogas benefics mutually exchanged between the houses 6 and 8 are not harmful to the opponent to the extent to which malefic owning the houses 6 and 8 interchange. No doubt benefics in 6, 7 and 8 cause Lagnadhiyoga to the native and mutual exchange of the benefics by nature owning the houses 6 and 8 bring about a transaction wherein the native is benefited; whereas he, with whom he transacted, has not gained equally. Supposing a person purchases a property during Jupiter Dasa, Venus Bhukti, lords 6 and 8 for Vrishaba Lagnas, then this person purchases it at a cost lower than the market rate; whereas the seller loses to some extent. Anyhow he is capable of disposing even an unsalable property during that period. Also it may be noticed in a few business people chart that the husband transfers certain sharer and also gives gift to his wife when the wife runs a period conjointly rule by lord of 6 and 8. It is also likely that those who run the joint period of lords of 6 and 8, borrow money without any record and he who lends the money suddenly passes away thereby the native who runs the period of lord 6 and 8 temporarily is not honest and he appropriates the amount.

The mutual exchange between lord of 12 and either lord of 8 or 6 will be advantageous to the person only when they happen to be malefics. Benefics by nature owning the 8 and 12 houses by mutually having the interchange of places cannot do harm to the opponent and also much good to the native. Because if lord of 6 is a benefic and if it occupies the second house or if lord 2 occupies the 6th house, the natives bank position will improve by borrowing or by service. Therefore, benefics owning the houses 8 and 12 mean that they own the houses 2 and 6 to the opponent. Therefore, benefics cannot bring either loss or throw any obstacles to the opponent. Hence the native cannot gain much.
This Viparitha Raja Yoga is really enjoyed only when the lords of 6 and 8 happen to be malefic by nature. Indeed the period may cause injury to the person and he may suffer from disease or meet with an accident, yet monetarily it will do good to him. Or in any competitive examination or election he will come out successful. This is purely applicable to those who are born in Mithuna Lagna, Kanya Lagna, Mesha Lagna and Vrischika Lagna.

Mutual exchange between lords of 6 and 12 will be advantageous to younger brother, mother and father. Interchange between the lords of 8 and 12 will be advantageous to mother, wife and elder brother. Interchange between lords of 6 and 8 will be advantageous to children.

The planets occupying the constellation of the lords of 6 or 8 or 12 and also owning the houses of 6 or 8 or 12 will bring about the above said Yoga provided the sub is ruled by a benefic by lordship.
