A Guide to Palmistry: The Characteristics of Lines and Marks, Chapter IV, Part – 4

The Trident

Three-pronged spearhead, is found at the upper end of the line. It is a favourable indication, and adds strength to the Line of Apollo, increasing its brilliancy and the chances of success. It is a very unusual marking and is always a good one. It must, however, be perfectly marked to ensure its fullest indication.

The Star

The Star as well as the cross must not be the result of intersecting lines; it should be independent and separate from any line or mount. It is an important and valuable sign; it is sometimes a good indication, but at other times a bad one except on the Mounts of Jupiter and Sun. In both cases, the star denotes great success and fame (A and B fig. 7). Whenever seen on the hand; it should be regarded as of the utmost importance. If small and evenly formed in all its proportions, it will mean brightness or intensification; but if large, ill-formed and diffused, it indicates a break-up or an abrupt ending. On the Life line it will mean sudden death; on the Head line mental trouble or insanity; on a Voyage line death from drowning-wherever found, the large deep Star means danger. On the Line of Apollo or Mount of Apollo, it will indicate unmeasured success-but the Star must be well formed and even.

A star on the Mount of Saturn (C fig. 7) means death by suicide. A star on the Girdle of Venus (D fig. 7) means fatal venereal disease. A star on the Line of Mentality or Saturn (E and E fig. 7) means death by road accident.

A star on the Upper Mars or the Plain of Mars (F and F fig. 7) means death by violence.

A star on the base of the Mount of Venus (G fig. 7) means extremely bad luck in love. In this case if an influence line runs from this star towards the Line of Saturn passing through the Line of Vitality and ending on the Plain of Mars or the Mount of Saturn, it means that marriage will take place after that unhappy marriage and that the other partner will soon go mad.

Two stars on the crooked third phalange of the Finger of Mercury (H fig. 7) foretell murder while in the act of robbing or committing other crimes.

A star on the border of the Mount of Moon (I fig. 7) means death while undergoing surgical operation.

The Cross

It is a very usual sign to be seen, though it appears sometimes as a single sign, or is formed by lines crossing other lines. Always note the depth of the lines forming it and how they conform in proportion to the other lines. A deep cut, highly coloured cross is of great import. The Cross is an obstacle or defect, and generally produces a bad quality, a health defect, or a change in the course of the subject’s life. In any position it must be regarded as an unfavourable sign.

The Cross must be separate and independent and not formed by the intersection of two or more lines. The cross might be of good or bad influence owing to its position. The best place for the cross is to be found on the Mount of Jupiter (A fig. 8), where it means a happy marriage based on mutual love. Also when this cross is found, another big cross extending in the Quadrangle between the Lines of Heart and Mentality will be seen (B fig. 8). In such cases it is called the Mysterious Cross and it is the best sign in a hand as it assures happiness and comfort.

The cross if seen if any other place than those two mentioned above means misfortune and ill luck. When found on the Mount of Saturn (C fig. 8) it betrays a fanatic nature indulging in religious performances and debates. This is always supported by a long narrow Finger of Saturn.

Two crosses on the first phalange of Saturn finger (D fig. 8) indicate a tendency to change one’s religion for the sake of marriage. One single cross on the same phalange means barrenness.

A cross on the Mount of Mercury (E fig. 8) means villainy. Two or more crosses on that mount means scandalous death.

Persistent and constant misfortune is represented by many crosses scattered in the area of the Plain of Mars (F fig. 8). The Plain of Mars in such cases will be flat or depressed and the Lower Mars will be of the same quality.

Many crosses on the Mount of Moon (G fig. 8) indicate death by drowning, or serious troubles in foreign binds.

One cross on the Mount of Venus (H fig. 8) means lost love after causing much scandal.
