A Guide to Palmistry: The Characteristics of Lines and Marks, Chapter IV, Part – 3

The Triangle

This is usually a single sign, though it is at times found on a line, and may be formed by the crossing of the main lines-but it is not then so strong as when seen as a single sign. When a well made Triangle is seen, not formed by the crossing of the main or minor lines, and the lines at the angles do not overlap, it tells of great Mental brilliancy of the Line, Mount or Finger on which it is found. It always refers to the mental qualities only.

The Triangle is very rarely seen, and its function is the same as of the square. It is a very good sign if found on either the Mount of Jupiter or Mercury (A and A’ fig. 4); in a Jupiterian hand it denotes supreme efficiency and success in administrative works and on a Mercurial hand it denotes efficiency and success in diploma tic affairs.

The triangle is also sometimes seen on the Line of Fate or Sun (B and B’ fig. 4) where it guards the career or wealth from sure loss.

The Grille

This sign in composed of a number of minute lines crossing each other at right angles or nearly so, and is always a serious menace. If very pronounced and composed of deep red lines, the danger is great; if only made up of small thin lines, it is not so serious. On the Mounts it is a bad sign, bringing up its health defects or its bad qualities. A Grille composed of lines not running vertical and horizontal is not so serious a defect as one with the lines running more nearly at right angles.

The Grille is the forerunner of evil where found. A grille on the Mount of Jupiter (A fig. 5) smears its fine qualities even if the mount is good by adding vice and corruption to its bad traits. Although the character will be ambitious, good and kind, his vices will jeopardize his ambitions by creating difficulties and obstacles in his way.

The grille, however, is often found on the hands of bad Jupiterians where it is accompanied by a short line of Mentality and a deformed thumb. In a big bohemian hand, the grille is a sure sign of indulgence in all sorts of vices.

The grille on the Mount of Saturn (B fig. 5) means absolute ill luck; in case this grille is supported by another one on the Line of Saturn or the Line of Mentality, or on the Quadrangle, it means death by violence.

The grille on the Mount of Sun (C fig. 5) means childish whims which will cause loss of money and honour. Fear of immediate insanity exists if another grille appears on the Mount of Moon.

The grille on the Mount of Mercury (D fig. 5) denotes financial or political complications due to dishonesty and bad conduct. In such cases if a second grille appears on the third phalange of the Finger of Mercury, it means suicide in order to escape scandal or prison.

The grille on the Mount of the Upper Mars (E fig. 5) betrays a bloody nature pleased by seeing blood. If this grille is accompanied by stiff short fingers and red nails together with a strong thumb and a bad Line of Mentality, these marks reveal a born criminal who will meet his end on the gallows after committing horrible crimes.

The grilles on the Mount of the Moon (F fig. 5) indicates morbid imagination easily aroused by sexual appetites. It is the sign of urinary diseases. If this grille is supported by a similar one on the Mount of Jupiter, Sun or Mercury it means indulgence in taking intoxicating drugs, which will destroy health, wealth and mind.

The grille on the Mount of Venus (G fig. 5) denotes home troubles resulting from wrong love.

The grille on the Mount of the Lower Mars (H fig. 5) denotes soft nature which lacks self-confidence and self-defense.

Cross-bars

These are constituted of horizontal lines lying close together, but without vertical lines crossing them. It has always found this sign to be worse than the Grille. This sign will bring out the worst side of a Mount, such as health defects, but fortunately it is not often seen. The deeper the lines composing it, the worse will be the indication.

The Circle

It is a very unusual sign, and is chiefly valuable when seen on the Life line or the Mount of Sun- or the Line of Head under Sun. Such a marking will tell of delicacy of the eyes. It is not found on the hands of all blind persons, but chiefly on the hands of those who have poor vision or weak eyes. It is said, by some Palmists, to have been seen on Mount of Moon as a separate sign, and that it indicated death by drowning.

The Circle is rarely seen and it is a bad omen when found in a Sunnian hand. A circle on the Mount of Sun or on the line of Heart while passing that mount or on the Line of Vitality (A, A’ and A” fig. 6) is an infallible sign of serious optic disease. It is a sure sign of blindness if the character was born during an eclipse.

A circle on the thumb or the Mount or Line of Mercury (B, B and B fig. 6) means death by poison.

A circle on the line or Mount of Saturn (C and C fig. 6) indicates death by fire, i.e., by pistol or any explosive material.
